The Bid is the first working prototype of the Party, a group of MA (Interactive Multimedia) students in the London College of Printing in 1996. The piece of test bed work adopts a form of interactive documentation of 4 friends playing the bridge game. The layout of the screen provides spatial information about the actual environment, where the master shot image is displayed in the centre. Whenever the user navigates behind each of the players, a point of view shot will pop up gradually with subtle audio transition. The user, which is denoted by the rotating circular cursor provides a poetic movement as the user does not have to push any button. S/he has only to drift across the screen in a legato mode, in musical sense. If the user chooses to stay behind the play for a while, still images and secret dialog appear which opens up the player’s inner mind to the user.
